Hope Dental Clinic: Making a Difference in Ypsilanti

Hope Dental Clinic is part of Hope Medical Clinic, a non-profit organization, located in Ypsilanti, serving populations that are up to 200 percent above the federal poverty level. Executive Director Matthew Hudson explains that a MDA Foundation grant received in 2012 has helped the clinic see more patients and provide even more care.

Here is their story:

The $5,000 grant was used to purchase two additional cavitrons, allowing us to place a unit in each operatory. The additional units increased the clinics efficiency, which translated to an increase in patients treated. We saw an increase of 21 percent in hygiene visits over the previous year, jumping from 1,601 in 2011 to 1,941 hygiene visits in 2012.

The MDA Foundation grant monies also allowed Hope Clinic to add three volunteer hygienists and one volunteer dentist to utilize the machines to the benefit of our patients.

Our mission is to provide compassionate and practical help to those in need, ministering to the whole person with dignity and respect, while restoring smiles and self-respect. We have been successfully meeting that mission by providing general preventive and restorative care at no charge to low-income, uninsured children and adults in Ypsilanti and the surrounding areas since 1993. We thank the MDA Foundation for helping us achieve our mission.
