This will be a half day interactive program focused on the challenges of providing dental care to elderly (geriatric) patients. Many older adults have multiple chronic medical conditions and are simultaneously taking multiple medications, which has a huge impact on oral health. Oral disease in older adults can not only amplify chronic and systemic health conditions, but also impact daily life including the ability to communicate, chew, and swallow. These clinical issues including the psychological and behavioral aspects of delivering care will be addressed.

About the speakers … Dr. Lisa Thompson is head of the geriatric program and serves as program director for the Geriatric Dental Fellowship, in the Office of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. After receiving her DMD from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Thompson was awarded the Massachusetts Access Program grant and worked for the Cambridge Health Alliance as a general dentist. During her time at Cambridge Health Alliance, she completed the fellowship in geriatric dentistry at Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
