Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) affect approximately 10% of the general population. Obtaining an appropriate diagnosis is critical but can be perplexing. This course will review how to diagnose the different types of TMDs: arthrogenous disorders, myogenous disorders, and internal derangements. It will specifically review the diagnostic criteria, clinical presentation, and examination of these conditions. Dentists will also learn how to differentiate between muscle vs. joint conditions. Clinical case studies will be presented to illustrate these diagnoses.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify patients with TMDs.
  • Describe the diagnostic criteria for TMDs.
  • Perform diagnostic tests for TMDs.
  • Describe how to examine patients with TMDs.
