Scrap Amalgam

Excess amalgam remaining at the end of a procedure should be stored in an air-tight container, under a small amount of water, labeled "SCRAP AMALGAM." The MDEQ recommends storing scrap amalgam under water rather than fixer.) Decant off the water and blot the amalgam dry with paper towel before sending the scrap amalgam to the recycler. Most reclaimers/recyclers will only accept dry amalgam. Below is a list of some companies that will accept dry scrap amalgam. Contact the company to arrange for a pick-up or mail-in service.
