Disposable Amalgam Traps

In order to meet the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) pollution prevention goals, it is necessary to reduce the amount of mercury from amalgam particles entering the sewer system or the landfill. It is recommended that amalgam traps be changed at least once a week, or more frequently if needed. Disposable traps are recommended over reusable amalgam traps. Changing amalgam traps exposes employees to two hazards: a potential chemical hazard from almalgam/mercury, and a biological hazard from blood and saliva. Follow the procedure below to minimize exposure to these hazards.
