CMS Compliance Information

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires that all Medicare/Medicaid providers and their staff (including those that participate in Delta Dental’s Healthy Kids program) take the CMS training for Fraud, Waste and Abuse Prevention and General Compliance. This training can be taken directly on the CMS website through the Medicare Learning Network. or through Delta Dental, which provides the same exact training module. CMS mandates that its content not be modified.

In addition to Fraud, Waste and Abuse and General Compliance Training, Section 6401 of the Affordable Care Act requires that a “provider of medical or other items or services or supplier within a particular industry sector or category” shall establish a compliance program as a condition of enrollment in Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The OIG offers guidance for creating your own written compliance program.

This full-day course will take the difficulty out of dental-medical cross coding. Through this introduction to cross coding, attendees will be provided with the know-how to help their dental practices take the leap into cross coding and become part of the latest trends in cutting-edge modern dentistry. Attendees will learn how to determine medical necessity, which dental procedures can be filed medically, how to work with different types of medical plans, and how to work with medical codes and forms. This course examines the WIN-WIN of implementing cross coding as both a benefit to our patients and also to our practices. With increased case acceptance due to cross coding, profitability will increase.

Participants will examine the importance and necessity of implementing a dental-medical cross coding system and will discover the many dental procedures that meet the “medically necessary” criteria for medical insurance. This course will teach those new to medical coding all about the medical code sets, the medical claim form and how to use it for cross coding. Examples of different types of cross coded claims will be examined. This course will dispel the myth that medical coding is too hard and not worth the effort.

Creating an employee handbook is great way to communicate expectations to your staff, but it goes far beyond that. A well-written handbook can be a lifesaver when it comes to managing difficult situations such as suspected substance abuse in the workplace, harassment claims, requests for accommodations or leaves of absence, basic confidentiality, and social media dos and don’ts. However, due to the time involved in creating and/or updating a handbook, many well-intentioned dentists and office managers go without. Until now. …

This Make-and-Take HR Handbook Workshop will guide you through what should and should not be included in your employee manual, and then will provide the necessary time for you to create/update your own handbook in the same day, so you leave with a finished product in your hand! This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with others in the group and benefit from input from the MDA’s trusted human resources expert, Jodi Schafer. Due to the nature of the workshop, space is limited — so register today!

NOTE: You must be able to bring your own laptop.

As a bonus, the Michigan Dental Association’s electronic Staff Matters handbook template is included in the seminar price — normally valued at $149.

About the speaker ... Jodi Schafer is owner of Human Resource Management Service, LLC. Her “Staff Matters” column appears monthly in the MDA Journal.

Financial support provided by MDA Insurance, MDA Services, and Crest Oral B Professional Oral Health.

Morning session

Composite restoration esthetics can truly rival porcelain restorations. Resin composites are ideal in both young and older patients as a lower cost, more conservative alternative that helps dentists stay productive.

Course objectives:

  • Step-by-step techniques to recreate a natural looking tooth
  • Multiple uses of composite resins
  • How to make disappearing restorations

Afternoon Session

Designing a new smile starts when the patient first says hello. This seminar will review a systematic ap¬proach to accurately analyze a patient’s dental condition. After a proper diagnosis, treatment options be¬come more apparent. Interaction and communication, including new digital solutions with the laboratory, is essential and will be reviewed. Core principles of smile design with both macro esthetics and micro esthetics will be covered.

  • Learn the proper incisal edge position
  • Learn how to visualize the end result prior to treatment
  • Individualize a cosmetic treatment for different patient personalities
