We all know the importance of prosthetic planning prior to implant placement. Designing a workflow to facilitate this has been improved by technology advances that allow most of the process to be completed in our offices.

The speaker will share his workflow for implant placement that starts with the end in mind. From data acquisition, prosthetic planning, guide design, in-office printing, and high definition video of the implant placement using the guide, you will gain a better understanding of what is possible and what pitfalls may exist.

About the Speaker … Dr. Joseph Amalfitano received his bachelor’s degree, DDS degree, and certificate in periodontics from the University of Michigan and has been in full time practice ever since in the Traverse City area. He also completed a research fellowship at U of M in oral Microbiology.

In a country of ever-increasing diversity, clinicians must be equipped to interact with clients of varied cultural backgrounds. Those delivering effective, empathetic health care must be cognizant of the values, beliefs and attitudes toward health that people from various populations hold. The culturally competent oral health provider recognizes that cultural diversity means far more than just ethnicity, and that reaching all groups with various barriers can be challenging.

This session will present cultural diversity issues, how dental hygienists can become more culturally competent in patient care, and ways to use this knowledge for addressing access to care barriers among the population groups discussed.

About the Speaker … Sherri Lukes has 34 years of experience in dentistry, 28 spent in academia. She recently retired as associate professor from the Southern Illinois University dental hygiene program, where she taught oral pathology, community oral health, multicultural dental hygiene, and advanced periodontics clinic.
