Wenche (“Venke”) Borgnakke DDS MPH PhD is a senior research associate in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Dr. Borgnakke has published eight book chapters and about 70 papers; is Principal Investigator for an eight-year study among people with diabetes; and has lectured nationally and internationally in Canada, Cuba, The Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and The United Arab Emirates. The American Academy of Periodontology awarded her a 2012 Special Merit Award and the Clinical Research Award in 2013 and 2016. Dr. Borgnakke is a member of the CDC/AAP periodontitis surveillance workgroup whose clinical periodontitis case definitions increasingly are regarded the global standard.
